William Ray, 25, and Lloyd Angus, 10, native Giles Countians, drowned Sunday, Sept. 19, in Duck River near Shelbyville when the older man attempted to rescue his young cousin who had stepped off in deep water while wading and didn't come up.
Lloyd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Angus of Shelbyville, reportedly was wading the river just below Warner's Bridge when he got in water over his head, and Ray went in to rescue him. Witnesses said neither could swim.
Joint funeral services were held at 2 o'clock today (Wednesday) at Gowen-Smith Chapel, Shelbyville, with burial in Willow Mount Cemetery.
Lloyd Angus is survived by his parents, four sisters, Mrs. Mildred Burleson of Germany, Virginia, Marie and Josephine, all of Shelbyville; and seven brothers, Clyde, Harold, Grover, Jerry, Johnny, William and Floyd, his twin, all of Shelbyville.
Mr. Ray is survived by his parents, Gus and Octive Williams Ray; his wife, Lisa Ann, all of Shelbyville; three sisters, Linda, Joyce and Jessie Ray, of Shelbyville; four brothers, Robert Glen and Morgan Ray of Shelbyville, Paul A. Ray, with the armed services in France, and Don Ray of Anchorage, Alaska; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas D. Williams of Wheel.
