After graduation she taught in Marion Co., from 1913-1916. The 1913-14 school year she taught at the Kleinhammer School (#104) in Grant Township, north of Youngtown. The next year, 1914-15, she taught at Morning Star School (#41) in Wilson Township southeast of Canada. The last year, 1915-16, she taught at Warren School (#87) in Durham Park Township southeast of Durham. The first year she had 7 students & received $40 per month, she had to pay $16 per month for board. When she was at Warren School, she received $65 per month for 65 students. At that time she lived with her Aunt Hattie & Uncle Chris Devore, who charged her $8 per month room and board. She also taught the Devore children that year.
At a pie social she had a sign for Glenn Kline to get her pie, but Uncle Chris Devore ended up getting the pie.
She and Glenn were married in the Pierce home.
After they were married she worked as a domestic for a family in Marion and then worked at Wolf's Creamery.
They bought the old Pierce home that was located just east of the Cottonwood River south of Highway 56 on the west edge of Marion. She loved flowers and gardening. She and Glenn maintained a huge garden just to the east of their home. They had many types of flowers next to the
highway and vegatables to the south of that. Behind the out buildings were fruit trees and a small vineyard. Canning of fruits, vegatables, jellies and jams was a summerlong project.
Church work was a vital part of her life. She was a member of the Evangelical Church through its merger with the United Brethren and finally with the Methodists. She was a member of the Sunday School when the first Evangelical Church was built in Marion in 1901. She taught Sunday School classes for several years and then served a Primary Superintendent for 15 years. As a couple they were sponsors of the youth group. She was also very active in the women's ministries of the church.
In 1976 the City of Marion bought their property to build the flood control dike. They moved to a small home on South Roosevelt in Marion. They continued to plant a few flowers and vegatables. She remained in this home after Glenn's death until she moved to Peabody to the Memorial Home where she was able to keep a one bedroom apartment yet was under the watch of the staff and her meals were taken in the main dining room.
She then moved to the nursing home in Marion where she remained until her death.
