Chesapeake - Verna Creech Stevens, 100, went to be with the Lord December 2, 2013. She was born in North Carolina to the late Charles and Eva Creech and was the loving wife to the late Robert Stevens. Verna was a longtime member of South Norfolk Congregational Christian Church where she was a member of the Dorcas Bible Class, as well as a Deaconess and Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and the CWA Retired Members Council. She retired in February 1976 from C&P Telephone Company after 32 years of service.

She is survived by her daughter, Helen S. Maples; granddaughter, Karen L. Maples; grandson, Keith W. Maples and his wife, Denise; great-grandsons, Kevin W. Maples, Corey G. Maples; and her special nephews, Norman Creech and James Hare Jr. She is also survived by a loving and close community of cousins and her church family. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, John J. Creech and sister, Virginia Hare. A special thanks to Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital Nurses; Seniorcorp Caregivers, Carmen and Rose; Hospice Nurses and Staff and to Dr. Clifford and his staff for the great care given to Verna.

A service to celebrate her life will be Friday, December 6, at South Norfolk Congregational Christian Church with Pastor Amos Eby officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
