Robert Clayton Dunaway was born on June 10, 1894 in Charlotte, Dickson County, Tennessee, and he was the son of William Preston Dunaway (1856–1942) and his wife Katherine Texas "Kattie" (McCauley) Dunaway (1864–1936).

He was married 1st to Annie D -- (ca 1899– ). He was married 2nd in 1940 to Beulah Salome (Harris) Blackford (1897–1966), and he was married 3rd to Emma Lee Batson.

A retired carpenter and member of Southside Church of Christ, Robert was living on Route 1 in Southside, Montgomery County, Tennessee. He was 91 years old when he passed away on January 24, 1986 in Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville, Christian County, Kentucky.

Survivors included his widow Emma Lee Patson Dunaway in Pembroke, Kentucky and stepsons Don Harris of Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee, Edward Harris and Robert Harris at Southside, W L Blackford in Cunningham, Tennessee and Dr Richard Harris of Memphis.

Funeral Services were held on January 26th at the chapel of Sykes Funeral Home, and burial was in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee.
