PVT. ARCIE SPIVA KILLED IN ACTION IN ITALY
A telegram received last Saturday from the War Department informed Mr. and Mrs. Allen Spiva of Bentonville, Rt. 3, that their son, Pvt. Arcie W. Spiva, was killed in action in Italy on October 7.

Pvt. Spiva sailed for overseas duty in March, 1943 and participated in the invasions of North Africa, Sicily and Italy as a member of a heavy artillery unit. He was 29 years old and had been in service since June, 1941.

He had attended the Gentry schools and lived in this vicinity until five years ago, when the family moved to Bentonville.

Besides the parents he is survived by three brothers who are also in the service, Pvt. Max Spiva of Camp Shelby, Miss., Pfc. Alva L. Spiva, who is somewhere in France, Cpl. William F. Spiva, who sailed three weeks ago from New York for overseas duty, two brothers of the home, John Dale and James Allen; and five sisters, Mrs. Arthula Weir, Modesto, Calif., Mrs. Maxine Bates, Bentonville and Janet, June and Geneva of the home.

Arcie was well known in Gentry and vicinity and was a grandson of the late Mrs. Dulcie Akin and a nephew of Jim Akin of Gentry.

FINAL RITES FOR ARCIE W. SPIVA MONDAY, NOV. 29TH
Final burial rites will be given for Pfc. Arcie W. Spiva at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Monday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m., with military honors.

Pfc. Spiva was killed in action in Italy on October 7, 1944, and was buried temporarily in a cemetery in that country.

According to the information we have obtained, the following is a list of survivors of Pfc. Spiva: his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Spiva of Hiwasse; five brothers, Max, Billy, Frank, John and James, all of near Bentonville; and four sisters, Arthula Weir of Bentonville, Maxine Bates, and Janet, Jane and Geneva, of the home.

Arcie was raised near Gentry, and entered the service soon after the outbreak of war.
