Dale F. Sloan was born on April 1¸1921 in Ragan, Nebraska, the son of Roger Henry Sloan and Marie Moser Sloan. He passed away on December 3, 2013 at St. Joseph's Home in Springfield, Illinois.

He graduated from Ragan High School, Ragan, Nebraska, in 1938. He enlisted in the US Navy in March of 1942. He was commissioned an Ensign in the Navy Supply Corp in June 1945 and retired in 1970 with the rank of Commander, U.S.N. after 38 years of military service.

During his naval career he served aboard the USS New Jersey, USS Antietam, and USS Vega. He served at numerous shore stations on the East and West Coast, and also in Cuba and Hawaii. While in military service he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Doane College and also attended the Graduate School of Business at Harvard University and the Naval Post Graduate School at Monterey, California. Following Navy retirement he was employed by Drug Enforcement Administration Headquarters in Washington, D.C. as Chief Accounting Operations until 1976.

He married Mary Sullivan MacMillan of New York City in 1948. She preceded him in death in 1982. In 1983, he married Patricia Connolley of Springfield, Illinois. She preceded him in death in 2008.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wayne¸ Glen and Larry; sisters, Roselyn Kasson and Cora Aten; and one step-son, Arthur James MacMillan.

He is survived by his step-children, Richard (Cindi) Allender of Springfield, Michael Connolley of Phoenix, Arizona, Leslie Pugh of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Joyce (Don) Catron of Auburn, and John Connolley of Springfield; several step-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
