Died From Cancer After Long Illness

Newman Mitchell passed away at his residence in Francesville Tuesday morning. His death was caused from cancer. Several years ago a miniature explosion of power lodged a portion of the contents on the left side of his face. This soon developed in a tumor and then cancer. It continued to spread about his face and lately he presented a most pathetic sight. For a month or more he had been in miserable shape and suffered intensely until his life ebbed out and his soul went to meet its creator in the mysterious beyond. Mr. Mitchell was just 24 years old. He was born near Medaryville and came to Francesville three years ago where he married Miss Verna Rice. Two children were born to this union and with the mother two brothers and a sister survive. The funeral occurred from the residence yesterday afternoon and the remains were taken to Independence for interment -Francesville Tribune, April 15, 1909
