Conrad Heinrich Kechley was the son of John Michael and Barbara Kornman Kechley. He was born in Seneca County, Ohio and lived on a farm there until 1871 when the family moved to a farm near Blue Springs, Gage County, Nebraska. On November 11, 1885 he married Martha Witzenberg, daughter of Johannes and Minnie Jelsman Witzenberg. To this union one daughter was born. The family resided in Gage County, Nebraska and later moved to Narobisco, New Mexico on a farm in that area. Conrad lost his wife, Martha, in an automobile accident in New Mexico in 1910. He moved back to the Blue Springs, Nebraska area after her death with his daughter. He lived in Nebraska until his death in 1941.
