Susan Beverly Caldwell Cavanagh died December 1 at her home in Tallahassee. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Dr. James Cavanagh, and three children.

Born July 21, 1929 in Milton, Florida, Mrs. Cavanagh is the daughter of former Florida Governor, Congressman and Chief Justice Millard Fillmore Caldwell and Mary Rebecca Harwood Caldwell, originally of Beverly, Tennessee, and Saluda, Virginia.

The family moved from Milton to Tallahassee in 1941. Susan attended the FSU Demonstration School and Leon High School, graduating in 1947. She graduated from Florida State University in 1951, where she was an English major and a member of the Tri Delta sorority.

After graduation, Susan taught elementary school two years in St. Petersburg, Florida.

She travelled in Europe and taught school at a military base in Bad Kissingen, Germany, before returning to the states and completing a master's degree in early childhood education at the University of Virginia.

There she met Robert Howe Dodd, whom she married in 1955 in Tallahassee. They had three children, Mary Harwood, Anna Walker, and Robert Howe, Jr. In 1976, Susan married Dr. James E. Cavanagh, Jr., her former Leon High School classmate.

Susan is predeceased by her brother, Millard, III, and her sister Sally.

At Susan's request, a private, family graveside service was held at Blackwood-Harwood Cemetery.
