Franklin News-Herald, Tuesday, Jun 17 1980:

Alvie Daniel Pardee, 33, of 12 Reed St, Oil City, was killed instantly in a truck crash on the New Jersey Turnpike at 5:45 pm Monday.

Newark state police said Pardee was operating his tractor-trailer west on the TWL Ramp near Interchange 14 on the turnpike when his rig crashed into the back-end of a disabled tractor-trailer. Pardee was pronounced dead on arrival at College Hospital in Newark at 6:47 pm. Investigating officers said the disabled vehicle, owned by Xul A. Rodino of Elizabeth, NJ, was parked on the left side of the ramp in the local lane when the fatal crash occurred. New Jersey troopers reported vehicles had been passing the disabled tractor on the right side but that Pardee was not able to move to the right quick enough to avoid crashing into the rear-end. Trooper Larry McClain, the investigating officer from the Newark state police, said Pardee was pinned in his truck for about 30 minutes before he was transported to College Hospital by Newark Ambulance. An autopsy was being performed today to determine the nature of Pardee's injuried and the exact cause of death. Pardee's tractor-trailer was owned by Inter-Regional Truck Lines Inc., based in Youngstown, OH.
