Alma Magdaline (Warneke) Bartz was born on February 4, 1914, in Pierce Nebraska. She was the fifth child of Carl Warneke and Ida Lenz Warneke. Alma was educated in Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed at the St. John's Lutheran Church near Pierce, Nebraska.
Alma was joined in marriage to Herbert Carl Bartz on August 23, 1933. To this union five children were born: Charles, Barbara, Janet, Kathleen, and Dennis.
In 1941, Herb and Alma left Nebraska for San Diego, California, where they helped with the war effort. In 1943 the family returned to Nebraska to care for Herb's parents and in 1948 they moved their family to Iowa. Later they were both employed at Union Carbide in Red Oak and moved to Villisca in 1968. They both retired from Union Carbide in 1971. She was a member of the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Villisca. In 2008, Alma moved to the Villisca Good Samaritan Center and was a resident there until her death on December 4th. She leaves five children: Charles (Shirley) Bartz of Red Oak, Iowa, Barbara (Harry) Hall of Rogers, Arkansas, Janet (Merrill) Heard of Tabor, Iowa, Kathleen Anderson of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Dennis (Heidi) Bartz of Villisca, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, three sisters and five grandchildren.

Funeral services for Alma will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 9 at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Villisca, Iowa. Burial will follow the service in the Villisca Cemetery.
