JANE EVELYN GIBSON BROWNLEE, 79, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed this life on Friday, December 6, 2013 at her home after a long period of illness.

Jane was born February 27, 1934 in Memphis, TN to the late Willie Mae Able and Robert Gibson. She was the oldest of six children with three (3) siblings preceding her in death.

At the age of 13, Jane confessed a hope in Christ at Cane Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Jane loved serving the church. at Cane Creek, she served in various auxiliaries such as Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, Annual events, the youth department, and especially what she was know for, the music department as pianist/organist. Jane was a musician at Cane Creek for thirty-one years.

Music was not her only accomplishment. Jane graduated from Hamilton High School class of 1953 where she was Valedictorian.

On March 29, 1963, she married Theodore Brownlee and to this union, six children were born.

Jane worked as a housekeeper and then joined the Memphis City Schools' Food Service Department in 1969. After 28 years of service, she retired from Coro Lake Elementary as Cafeteria Manager in 1997 to become a caregiver to Theodore, who preceded her in death in 2004. However, through whatever obstacle she faced, Jane never stopped playing as a musician. It was important to her to do the work called her to do and she did just that. Jane Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory a devoted and loving sister, Charlotte Beaird and another sister, Anita Hunter, both of Memphis, TN; a brother, John Gibson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two daughters, Denise E. Jones (Doug) of Memphis, TN and Jocelyn D. Brownlee of Memphis, TN; five sons, Keith Brownlee of St. Louis, Missouri, Samuel, David (Annette), Robert, Anthony, and John Thomas Brownlee (Emilee), all of Memphis, TN; seven grandchildren, Samantha, Elias, Christopher, John, Karl, Jasmine, Jonathan and an honorary grandson, Harvey Rogers; two great-grand-children, Taveon and Williiam and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends, 5-7 p.m., Friday, December 13 at Forest Hill Funeral Home Midtown. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 14 at Cane Creek Baptist Church. Forest Hill Funeral Home Midtown (901)775-0310
