"OLE NELSON

The funeral of Ole Nelson, an aged pioneer of Warren Township, was held at Brouhard Funeral Home in Zearing Tuesday afternoon with Rev. H. N. Bakke, pastor of the Bethany Lutheran Church of McCallsburg, in charge using as his text John: 3-16, For God so loved the world. Mrs. Orpha Hankins and Mrs. Myrtle Martin with Mrs. Leta Baily at the piano sang: "Jesus Lover of My Soul".

The pallbearers were Walter Rasmussen, R. A. Nelson, M. O. Haukoos, W. T. Tett, Carl Lura, W. C. Brouhard, Jr. and burial was made in the mausoleum at Zearing where his wife was laid to rest quite a number of years ago.

Ole Nelson, son of Nels and Anna Nelson, was born May 17, 1841 in Denmark and passed away at his home in McCallsburg January 16, 1938 at the age of 97 years. Mr. Nelson was from a family of nine children, having had seven brothers and one sister. In 1866 in Denmark he was united in marriage to Enga Marie Hanson and to this union were born five children. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson and family came to the United States in 1876, settled in Marshalltown where Mrs. Nelson died and on September 5, 1882 he was again married, this time to Pauline Nelson at Marshalltown and to this union were born seven children.

The surviving children are Nels and Jens of Forest City, Mary (Mrs. Fred) Baker of Donnelly, Minn., and Christine who lives in the west. The wife and seven children preceded him in death. Mr. Nelson, when he came to Story County 40 years ago, located on a farm southeast of town where he lived for many years and later bought a home in town where he continued to reside. He lived alone for some years but in the past years has had as a housekeeper, Mrs. Lola Lutz, who has given him the best of care in his declining years when he had been quite helpless, due to infirmities of old age. None of his children are living in this community.

Those in attendance at the funeral were the children: Mr. and Mrs. Nels Nelson and baby and Jens Nelson of Thompson; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Baker of Donnelly, Minnesota, and some of the O'Donnells who are grandchildren of Colo, Ole Hauskins of Roland and Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Rsmussen, Mrs. Will Thomas and Mrs. W. T. Tett, Miss Ruth Menzel, Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Haukoos, Mrs. Lola Lutz and Helen, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Morris, Mr. W. H. Reid and Mrs. Art Cook from McCallsburg."

The five children of Enga Marie Hanson and Ole Nelson have yet to be identified.

Pauline and Ole married September 5, 1882; to this union seven children were born:

4) Mary Nelson (Mrs. Fred Baker)(abt 1888-)

6) Jens "Jeno" Nelson(Jan 1893-)
7) Nels Peter Nelson (25 Apr 1895-20 Aug 1989, Loveland, Larimer, Colorado)
