Defeated Lunn, the.Socialist Incumbent on a Fusion Ticket for Mayor in 1913


SCHENECTADY, N. Y., Feb. 12 (AP) .
J. Teller Schoolcraft, who defeated George R. Lunn, Socialist
Mayor of this city, in 1913, died last night. He was 81 years old.
Republicans and Democrats supported Mr. Schoolcraft as a Fusion
candidate, but failed to reunite in 1915 and Mr. Lunn, who now is a
State Public Service Commissioner, returned to office as Mayor.
A native of Schenectady, he practiced law here sixty years, serving I
two terms' as District Attorney. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs.
Robert B. Shepard of Glen Ridge, N. J. .

The election in 1913 which made Mr. Schoolcraft Mayor of Schenectady
was described then as the most exciting ever held in the city.
On election day, 24,000 of his Fusion supporters, including Republicans,
Democrats and Progressives, paraded the streets behind a
sign reading: "Our Flag Is the Star-Spangled Banner.".
