He relocated to Louisiana Circa 1858: 1860 census shows him in Union Parish, La., ( as A.M. Going ).In 1861 he enlisted in the Confederate Army, 12th Louisiana Infantry "Idependent Rangers" Co.E. at Camp Moore,just north of New Orleans. He was photographed in his privates uniform by a woman photographer, E. Beachabard. He would serve with that unit at Belmont, Island No.10, Fort pillow, Fort Hudson, Jackson, and then in the Georgia Campaign of 1864. He was apparently killed in the Atlanta area sometime in the summer of 1864.He never married.He was a brother of William George Washington Going, also a Confedrate soldier that later surrendered with General Lee at Appomattox Court House, and another brother in the Confedrate Army Elisha Palmer Going, who was killed at the Battle of Fussell's Mill, Virginia July 16, 1864.
