Wilber Gene Armstrong 88 of Columbia, passed away Wednesday December 11, 2013.

Memorial services will be held at 3p.m. on Monday December 16, 2013 at Parker Funeral Service, with the Rev. Michael Keith officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens.

He was a 1943 graduate of Hickman High School and attended the University of Missouri.

In March of 1986, he was united in marriage with Sandra O'Guin Snell at the Wilkes Blvd. Methodist Church. She preceded him in death May 14, 1997.

He was a member of Wilkes Blvd. Methodist Church since 1932. He was a founding member of Boy Scott Troup #7 at the church and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol.

Gene worked as a Union Carpenter for various Construction Companies, including J.E. Hathman and B.D. Simon of Columbia and McCarthy Brothers of St Louis. He was a superintendent on numerous buildings in Columbia including the Reynolds Alumni Center. Four Mizzou Parking Garages and several dormitories in addition to the Century Link Telephone Building and the original Walmart on the Buisness Loop.

Mr. Armstrong was a 65 year member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a 61 year member of Masonic Lodge, St Bernard Number 222, a member of Acacia Lodge Number 602. He celebrated 60 years as a Knight Templar, a member of Rebekah Lodge #383, Temple Shrine #7 of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Boone Chapter #290 of the Eastern Star, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, a 68 year member of the American Legion, and a 67 year member of Local 1925 Carpenters Union. Mr Armstrong was a founding member of the Tiger Motor Patrol, the Tiger Shrine Clowns, and was a proud member of the Moolah Temple Shriners.

Gene served as a Deputy Sheriff for four different Boone County Sheriffs.

Survivors include his sister, Mary Frances Winter of Jefferson City, two nephews Mark Winter of Warrenton, and Michael Winter and wife Mary of Lohman, three great nieces, Ketti Cllom, Lucinda Winter and Justine Winter, Godson Dean Jones of Sturgeon, and his special friend, Doris Barnhart of Columbia. Mr Armstrong was preceded in death by his parents, W.F. and Mabel (Griggs) Armstrong.
