Chamberlain - Funeral services for Eleanor Saukerson, 83, of Chamberlain, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, at Zion Lutheran Church in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. Visitation is Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 1 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Hickey-Wevik Funeral Chapel, Chamberlain. Eleanor Geraldine Saukerson, the daughter of Frank Eugene and Violet Eleanor (Budde) Beam, was born March 30, 1922, at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Neb. She attended school in Omaha and graduated from Benson High School in 1940. She married Wilbur Wayne Saukerson March 20, 1945, in Omaha. They moved to Chamberlain later that year and became members of the Zion Lutheran Church. Over the years Eleanor was very active in her church and community. She served ten years as a school board member and ten years on the South Dakota Housing Authority. She was Brule County Register of Deeds from 1967-1991 and was a South Dakota State Senator for District 25 from 1990-1994. Eleanor was a Lifetime member (60 years) of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of many other organizations including LaFemmes, Eight et Forty, VFW Auxiliary, the Republican Party, the Chamber of Commerce, the Red Cross, LWML, Christian Women's Group, and the SD Association of County Officials. Wilbur passed away June 25, 2001. In October, 2001, Eleanor moved into Regency Retirement Assisted Living in Chamberlain and then in October, 2003, she moved into Angelhaus in Aberdeen. Eleanor Saukerson passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at Angelhaus Regional Basic Care Center at the age of 83. Her memory will be cherished by her son Dale "Wally" Saukerson of Hendersonville, Tenn.; three daughters, Anita (Terry) Small of Aberdeen, Kay (Richard “Whitey”) Spain of Pierre, Mary Lou (Ronald) Gonnerman of Luverne, Minn.; a brother, Bruce (Phyllis) Beam of Omaha; a sister, Lorine (Cliff) Buller of Livingston, Texas; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, two sons, Clyde and Wayne; and a brother Dewaine. Casketbearers will be all her grandchildren; Chad Small, Joseph Richeal, Tera Muellerleile, Alison Osborn, Ian Saukerson, Trisha Goembel, Jacob Gonnerman and Sara Bennetts.
