Services for Jessie Lee Sappington, 82, of Gilmer, will be 4 p.m. Monday, December 16, 2013, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer, with the Rev. Marion Palmer Officiating. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at South Park Cemetery in Pearland. Mrs. Sappington passed away Friday, December 13, 2013, in Gilmer.
She was born February 20, 1931, in Collin County, Texas, to Bennie and Mattie Lou Horn Tillison. Jessie was a pastor's wife and a missionary to the Philippines. She and her late husband, the Rev. Richard Lee Sappington, devoted much of their life to missionary work in the Philippines until his death in 1982 in the Philippines.
Mrs. Sappington was also a receptionist at Union Baptist Association in Houston, International Crusades in Dallas and at Buckner Benevolences in Dallas. She worked also as a file clerk at republic National Bank and later, as a widow, went back to the Philippines as a Southern Baptist Missionary on the Island of Mindanao.
Jessie is survived by her son, Felton Lee Sappington and his wife, Donna, of Gilmer; daughters, Judy Lynn Syler and her husband, Bryan, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Lawana Wynette Sharp and her husband, Dennis, of Pearland, Texas; seven grandchildren and spouses, Felisha and Shayne Wilson, Brandon and Carol Syler, Taleen and Joe Flinn, Richard and Kaylyn Sharp, Brandy and Brad Bardsley, Greg and Kristin Sharp and Derek Sharp; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren-in-love.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today, December 15, 2013, at the funeral home.
