Charles Goodrich, 48, proprietor of the Cuba Baking Company, was instantly killed on a private crossing on his farm in East Cuba early last Wednesday evening when westbound Erie Train 1 struck a truck in which he and his son, Charles, Jr., were riding. Parts of the truck were hurled atop a nearby garage. The son escaped with a minor cut on the lip which was closed with two stiches. Many Attend Rites of Mr. Goodrich
There was a large attendance at the funeral of Charles Goodrich, held Saturday afternoon at Christ Church, conducted by Rev. Roy L Webber. The business places of the community were closed during the services. Burial was in the family plot at Hornell, where a son, Francis, who lost his life in an accident 13 years ago, is buried. Mr. Goodrich was a resident of Hornell for 15 years and was still a member of the Maple City Police Force.
The pallbearers were: M. J. O'Malley, D.J. Hitchcock, B. J. Farner, Gordon Boss; honorary pallbearers, R.M. Wheeler, E.W. Hayden, F.W. Fulboam, John C. Robertson, Claude Newton, H.W. Lofgren, Bradford; Howard Feldman, Jamestown; Robert Rhodes, Olean.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Walter Angel, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Angel, Bernard Angel, Alberta Angel, Helen Pedro, Owego; Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Lofgren, Bradford, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Feldman of Jamestown; J. J. Mess, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Mess, Raymond Mess, Mrs. Charles Sparrow, Mrs. Margaret Lewis, Mrs. Ross Knight, Hornell; Mrs. Lottie Gary, Mrs. Harriet Mess, Olean; Mrs. Maude Budinger, Mrs. Lyle Mprrows.
