He is survived by his mother, Mary Buchanan; his wife, Evon Leopold Buchanan; his grandmother, Lucy Hutton; seven sisters, Annie Hardamon, Estella Wright, Ruth King, Thelma Scott, Lettie Cash, Esther Coleman, and Margie Buchanan; and three brothers, Marvin Buchanan, Willie Buchanan, and Moses Coleman.
At time of his death, his wife was four months pregnant with his daughter, Rosilyn G Buchanan.
