Henry F. Kitz was born at Toledo, OH on Oct. 20, 1856.
When he was a small boy, his parents moved to Oshkosh and he had resided in this city or nearby communities ever since.
The major portion of his boyhood was spent in Oshkosh, where he attended the old German school, which was located on the site now occupied by the Moose hall.
When he was a young man, Mr. Kitz located at Dale, WI. In that place he opened a general store and was recognized as one of the leading business men of the community.
Being an enthusiastic musician himself, Mr. Kitz was chiefly responsible for the organization of a community band at Dale. He was chosen as director, and continued in that capacity for several years.
Mr. Kitz spent eighteen or twenty years at Dale. During the time he was there, he was married to Miss Margaret Gmeiner. She passed away in this city about forty years ago.
At Dale, Mr. Kitz was a leader in community affairs, serving in various public offices such as constable.
When he returned to Oshkosh, he became associated in the contracting business conducted by his father. When the elder Mr. Kitz retired from business, Henry F. Kitz took over his father's interest in the contracting firm of Rhyner & Kitz.
When Mr. Rhyner died, Henry Kitz continued the business under his own name. He specialized chiefly in the construction of homes. Some of the best residences in Oshkosh at that time were built under his direction.
When Mr. Kitz was elected to the city council he gave up his contracting business.
All during his life, Mr. Kitz had been interested in music. He played the tuba. He was a member of the old Stein & Meyer band, one of the musical organizations of several years ago.
Mr. was a member of the famous Kitz band, so named because its personnel was made up almost entirely of members of the Kitz family, and the Crescent and Military bands, which developed from the old Kitz band.
Mr. Kitz was married a second time, in this city, but his second wife lived only a short while. Mr. Kitz never married again.
Mr. Kitz is survived by three children, Mrs. Olga Barnett, Mrs. R. W. Lentz and Arthur Kitz, all of Oshkosh; two grandchildren, Henry and William Lentz, of this city; one brother, Joseph H. Kitz; and two sisters, Mrs. H. J. Otto and Mrs. Helena Kohl, also of this city.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at the funeral home of Fiss & Bills, Church street, at 2 o'clock. There will be Elks' services.
Friends will be permitted to view the remains this evening and up to the time of the funeral on Wednesday at the funeral home.
