William was the son of Abner and Polly A. Rice Cox. His first marriage was to Harriet Haze. They had two (2) daughters; Nancy, who married Joseph Frizzell and Mollie, who married Isaac A. Benson. After Harriet's death, William remarried to Hildah A. Jones, that is buried beside him in this cemetery. In 1862, he enlisted into Company D. of the Arkansas Infantry, Confederate States Army and fought in the battles of Prairie Cove , Mansfield, and Jenkin's Ferry. William Cox was the Ouachita County Judge from 1884-1888.
