Marion Victoria Dorn was born in San Francisco, CA on December 23, 1899. A brilliant student, she graduated from Stanford University at age 16. In 1919 she married artist Henry Varnum Poor and established a home in San Francisco in the Stanford Court Apartments. Theirs was not a happy marriage. After their divorce, she became enamored with artist E. McKnight Kauffer and lived with him in London from 1923 to 1940. Returning to New York City at the outbreak of WWI, the couple was married in 1950. Mrs. Kauffer died in Tangiers, Morocco on Jan. 28, 1964. As well as a painter of still lifes and portraits, she became well known as a textile designer.
