Son of Charles Robert Finley, member of the USMA Class of 1915.

January 1943 graduate of the United States Military Academy. Assigned to the 2nd Battalion of the 9th Infantry and was shipped overseas to England in early 1944. Landed on Normandy on June 7, 1944. Wounded and evacuated on July 19, he was the recipient of the Bronze Star for meritorious action against the enemy and the Purple Heart. After recuperating, he returned to his battalion. First Lieutenant Finley was killed in action while on a reconnaissance mission. Recipient of the Silver Star for his voluntary mission.

Survived by his wife, Julie Goode Burr, daughter of Lt Col William E Burr, USMA 1914. After the death of her husband and her younger brother, Robert, she enlisted in the Women's Army Corps.

(Citation Needed) - SYNOPSIS: First Lieutenant (Infantry) Charles Robert Finley, Jr. (ASN: 0-25770), United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star (Posthumously) for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in connection with military operations against the enemy while serving with Headquarters, 2d Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, during World War II.
