Father: James "Ward" Brooks
Mother: Lillie Macon Brooks Campbell
Special Father: James Lester Campbell
Early Life: Mary Alice's father, Ward, passed away and Lillie later met and married James Lester Campbell, who Mary Alice lovingly called her "special" father. The family later moved to Provo, Utah, where Mary Alice grew up with her brothers: James Macon Brooks, Westley Ward Brooks, Ivan Demarr Campbell, Thomas William Campbell; and her sister, Lillie Esther Campbell.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: Mary Alice had a long and illustrious career in the telephone industry and saw first-hand the many changes from Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company to Mountain Bell to US West. She began as a young girl "working the cord boards" in Logan, Utah, where she worked her way up to Chief Operator. She moved to the Salt Lake City area to manage Operator Services there. In 1973, she left Operator Services to become manager in the Commercial Department's Residential Unit and then in the Commercial Business Unit. She then became District Manager in the State Staff Offices. From there, she moved to Midvale, Utah, into the position of District Manager of US West Direct, where she supervised that department's operations throughout Utah, Idaho, Colorado, and Wyoming. She retired from US West, leaving a legacy of excellence, fairness, caring, humor, a job well done, and, most importantly, lifetime friendships which she treasured and maintained throughout her entire life. Once she retired, Mary Alice returned to her home in Provo to enjoy her retirement years. She loved her friends and neighbors and was always available to help them in any way she possibly could. She was ever civic-minded and for many years, served on the Board of the Senior Citizens of Provo. Mary Alice was an active and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
