He was born June 29, 1920, in Randolph County, Ga., son of the late Vaughn Leon Crawford and the late Marion Frances Crawford. For many years, he was a partner in a family-owned dry cleaners in Cuthbert, Ga. He moved to Greenville in 1993. He was a Baptist and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Burma, China and India for three years.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Betty Dannelly Crawford. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William P. Crawford Jr. and Marion Rose Crawford; and their three children, Brawley, McKoy and Marion Caroline; to whom he was affectionately known as "DeeDee." Other survivors include a sister, Mary Madelyn Cole, of LaGrange, Ga.; and three brothers, Marvin Logan Crawford of Cuthbert, Ga., James Hubert Crawford of Cuthbert, Ga., and Vaughn Lynwood Crawford of Big Bear, Calif. He is predeceased by a sister, Marion Vonceil Crawford, of Georgetown, Ga.
