Anna May Pettay Murphy was born the daughter of David M. and Mary Miller Pettay. She spent most of her life in the Newport area. Anna was a member of the Newport Methodist Church and the V.F.W. Auxiliary in New Philidelphia. She married George Herbert Murphy on February 8, 1913 and they had one son, Gene, who was born in 1914. At the time of her death, she was survived by her husband, son, one brother, Edward Pettay of Newport, and one granddaughter.
