Robert Newton Beaty, 94, of Charleston, died Tuesday (Nov. 3, 2009) at his home.Husband of the late Virginia Brown Beaty, Mr. Beaty was born Aug. 5, 1915, in Mannington.Mr. Beaty worked for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co. for more than 40 years. He attended Fairmont State College and was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, serving in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He took part in the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp.Mr. Beaty is survived by a daughter, Virginia Brown Lilly of South Charleston, and a son, Robert N. Beaty Jr. of Oakton, Va.; four grandchildren, David P. Lilly, Susan Lilly Whitlock, Ann Lilly Moore and Melissa Beaty; and seven great-grandchildren.Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Edgewood Summit, 300 Baker Lane, Charleston, with Monsignor P. Edward Sadie officiating.In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that donations in Mr. Beaty's name be made to Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. West, Charleston, WV 25312.Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home in Charleston has been entrusted with the arrangements.
