A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Columbia, Lancaster County, July 13, 1864, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg July 19 as a private with Co. E in the hundred-day organization of the 195th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company November 4, 1864.
He married Anna Hess and fathered Mary A. (b. @1866), Henry (b. @1871), and Laura C. (b. @1873).
