John Albert "Ab" Owens was born on January 16, 1863 in Humphreys County, Tennessee, the son of John Calvin Owens (ca 1836–1886) and Martha Frances (Weatherspoon) Owens (1842–1928).

He was married to Elizabeth Mose "Ella" Peeler (1867–1959) on December 12, 1886 in Humphreys County, the daughter of Ezra Peeler (ca 1833– ) and Sarah (McCord) Peeler (ca 1835– ).

A farmer in Whites Creek, Davidson County, Tennessee, Ab was 76 years old and married when he passed away on March 10, 1939, and burial was the next day in Spring Hill Cemetery, Madison {city, not county}.
