Born to Jennie and Anthony Asaro on October 31, 1922, Harry attended Nyack schools and in 1943 was drafted by the Army to serve his country during WWII. He attended basic training at Fort Edwards, Massachusetts and landed at Omaha Beach in Normandy on D-Day. Harry was proud to serve under General George S. Patton, fighting as a loader/firer on a 40mm gun with the 550th AAA Battalion pushing all the way through France and into Czcech until the war ended.
Harry had his own delivery business in downtown Nyack, where he met and married the love of his life, Virginia Mills. He later worked as a machinist for Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, where at age sixty-two he retired after thirty-eight years on the job.
Harry loved to bowl and enjoyed playing weekly with his brother, Joe,,and friends and was a member of the American Legion, Orangetown Senior Citizens club in Nyack, and St. Ann's Church.
He was predeceased by brothers, Leopold, Dominic, and Gabriel Asaro; and a sister, Jennie Farsetta; and survived by his sister, Mary Alworth, and her twin brother, Joseph. Other surviving family include a daughter, Theresa (Natale) Magargal and husband, Wells (Mack); grandchildren, Stephanie Duffey (Scott), Wrisley Whitlock (Andrew), and Spencer Magargal; great-grandchildren, Ellianna, Trinity, Ian, and Xander Duffey.
Visiting hours will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2013 at Hannemann Funeral Home in Nyack. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at St. Ann's Church in Nyack.
A committal service with full military honors accorded will be scheduled for a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery.
