Birth year estimated from his age (9) at time of 1870 census. Birth place given here as well. Marriage record found at Annapolis Hall of Records, mic. roll #M-1043 (church records). Age given at marriage time is 22, which also agrees with census age for approximating year of birth. His newspaper obituary (The Daily Banner, Cambridge, Md., dated 7 June 1939) gives his age at death to be 78 years, 9 months, 11 days, from which his birth date was calculated here. This same obituary gives other pertinent information about him: "Captain Edward Everett Dodson, well known Chesapeake Bay waterman and a former member of the Cambridge Police force....born and reared in Northumberland Co., Va.....very adept as a "rigger" in the days of sailing ships throughout the Tidewater sections of the Eastern Coast...served several years as an officer of the Cambridge Police Force...Firm and positive, yet considerate of all, Captain Dodson made an excellent officer, and served in the position with honor and dignity...Although of a quiet, unassuming nature, he readily made friends, and his integrity and high principles commanded the respect of all who knew him...He was a member of St. Paul's M.P. Church and the Men's Bible Class of that church, and was always regular and punctual in his attendance, at all church services."
