The Villages, FL - John Munro Macaulay, 93, formerly of Monson, MA died Saturday, December 7, 2013 the 72nd anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day from complications from a fall on Veterans Day. John the son of the late Angus and Minnie (Hayburn) Macaulay was born in Springfield on July 1, 1920. A resident of Springfield for several years John proudly served the City of Springfield as a Firefighter for 30 years and retired in 1977. He was a member of Local 648, the Privates Club and the Newton Masonic Lodge in Wilbraham, MA. John served his country during WWII with the United States Navy in the South Pacific. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his wife Edna C. (Woods) Macaulay who died January 10, 2013,a grandson Eric Macaulay, two brothers, Charles and Robert Macaulay, and a sister Jean Bacon. He is survived by a son, Steven J. Macaulay and his wife Linda of Gulf Hammock, FL; four daughters, Bonnie G. Martin and her husband Eugene of Tuscaloosa, AL, Betty J. Sullivan and her husband James, Sandra L. Stansbury and her husband Jude, and Sheryl L. Macaulay all of The Villages, FL; eight grandchildren, Melissa, Craig, Paul, John-Glenn, Elise, Julie, Heather, and Jude, Jr.; 18 great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews. A funeral home service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 with visiting hours from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the funeral service at 11 A.M. at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield. Rites of Committal and Interment with Military Honors will follow Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, Springfield. Memorial contributions in John's memory may be made to Cornerstone Hospice, Attention Chandra, 2445 Main Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778.
