Thelma Scarborough Burnsed, 87, died peacefully Monday, October 24th, at St. Joseph's Hospital. Mrs. Burnsed was born in Andrews, SC to James Holmes Scarborough and Vida Vashti Cuttino Scarborough and moved to Savannah with her family in 1924.

Along with her mother and siblings, James Holmes Scarborough, Jr., Mary Adelle Scarborough (Tuten), Annie Laurie Scarborough (Garrett), and twin brother Benjamin Cuttino Scarborough, she played several instruments on the popular weekly radio show, "The Scarborough Family" on WTOC.

An accomplished, avid musician, Mrs. Burnsed served as church organist at Calvary Baptist, First Baptist, Ardsley Park Baptist and Bull Street Baptist churches. She also performed regularly for residents at area nursing homes, substituted at Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church as an organist, and most recently, provided music and comfort for her co-residents at Spanish Oaks Retreat. Mrs. Burnsed enjoyed several decades as a kindergarten teacher at The Durrence School. Her great love of music was extended to her students and later to her grandchildren.

Predeceased by James Colvas Burnsed, her husband of 59 years, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Adele Burnsed-Geffen and Theodore Geffen, cherished grandsons Zvee James Geffen and Joseph Burnsed Geffen, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service: 12:00 noon, Thursday, October 27 in the Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors. Interment: Bonaventure Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Coastal Georgia.
