Muncie--Edward R. Greer, 89, died Sunday in Ball Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Greer was born in Forbus, Tennessee, and was a graduate of Alvin C. York Institute and Middle Tennessee State University. He moved to Muncie in the late 1930s. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked at Ball Brothers (now Ball Corp.) for 25 years, then at Delco Battery for 15 years before retiring in 1977. He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, National Council of Senior Citizens, and UAW Local 489 and was active in Delaware County Labor Council.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jewel Stephens Greer; a daughter, Carol Johnson (husband: Norman); two granddaughters, Suzanne Kadinger (husband: Kevin) and Marianne Johnson; a great-granddaughter, Hanna Kadinger; two sisters, Lois Parks and Arah Fiske (husband: Richard).
Two brothers and three sisters are deceased.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday in Meeks Mortuary, Burial with military rites by Veterans of Delaware County will be in Gardens of Memory.
Calling will be 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
