Two Brothers die in Slatefall.
Two brothers, George M. and Richard A. Wilds lost their lives when a huge block of slate fell on them last Thursday night at the Will Dean Mine near Sand Gap. George was instantly killed by the falling rock, while Richard lived until Friday morning at about 10 o’clock. The slate caught Richard on the left leg and shoulder. He was immediately taken to the College Hospital where he passed away the next morning. George was 41 years of age and lived in Jackson County and was buried at Cove Springs Cemetery, Saturday at 1 o’clock. Richard lived on the Dixie Highway about 2 miles south of Berea. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Janie, one son, Leonard and two daughters, Mrs. Margerite Carmack and Lena Mae. Funeral services were held at the Britton Funeral Home.
