Obituary from the Versailles Leader, Versailles, Missouri:

"Funeral services for William J. Atkeson, son of the late John and Nancy Atkeson, who was born March 1, 1867 in Moniteau County, were held Tuesday afternoon. On April 13, 1890, he united in marriage to Alpha L. Snorgrass in the old Liberty Baptist church and to this union two daughters were born, Mrs. J. P. (Lora) McDaniel of near Fortuna and Mrs. Milburn (Mae) Berkey of Mulberry, Kansas.

His entire life was spent in Moniteau county and the past 49 years he had resided in Fortuna. For many years he owned and operated a threshing machine. He had been in failing health for several years and the past six weeks he weakened rapidly and passed away on Friday, October 21, 1949, at the Lake Side Rest Home in Warsaw, Mo., at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 20 days.

He was preceded in death by his wife who passed away April 12, 1949. His mother, father and five brothers also preceded him in death. He is survived by the two daughters, five grandsons, four granddaughters, six great grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. G. T. Scott and Mrs. A. J. Baughman, both of Fortuna, Mo.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist church in Fortuna, with the Rev. J. L. Freeman of Versailles, Mo. officiating assisted by the Rev. O. E. Patton of Tipton. Interment was made in the Tipton Masonic cemetery under the direction of the Kidwell funeral home of Versailles, Mo.

Pallbearers were: George Irey, A. P. Foley, Ott Spurgeon, W. L. Rimel, Virgil Carter and Lloyd Dornan. Flowers were carried by Miss Audrey Rodner, Mrs. W. L. Rimel, Mrs. Russell Gates, Mrs. A. P. Foley, Miss Jewell Bridges, Mrs. Tom Hutchison and Miss Ruth Newkirk. A quartet, Mrs. Morris Lammert, Mrs. Ada Drake, A. P. Foley and Morris Lammert sang "Have Thine Own Way," "Where He Leads Me I Will Follow," and "Life's Railway To Heaven," with Mrs. Zora Charles at the piano."
