In 1910 he was attacked by a demented man and shot twice as he was entering his office. His death ten years later followed a spine surgery but it is not known if the cause for the surgery was this shooting. He was devoted to his profession and worked untiringly in the interest of his patients, giving special attention to his patients.
He is not linked to three of his children: Dr. Samuel B. Grant, John Grant & Ida Grant.
