CALDWELL—John Henry Griffiths 58, prominent southwestern Idaho engineer, died at his home here, at 2110 South Tenth avenue, at 1:45 a.m. Saturday.
Services will be at the Peckham-Dakan chapel at 2:30 p. m. Monday with H. H. Hayman officiating. Interment will he at Canyon Hill. The American' Legion post here will conduct brief graveside rites.
Mr. Griffiths was born April 4, 1891, at Colby, Kan. The family came to Idaho from Edmonton, Canada, in March of 1896. Griffiths attended Caldwell schools, graduating from high school here in 1912.
He homesteaded south of Lake Lowell, then studied civil engineering under, Fred McConnell. After completing a correspondence course in engineering, he became a partner of McConnell in a business association which lasted for 1 years.
Mr. Griffith was one time secretary of the state board of engineer examiners, was active in the Idaho Society of Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers.
He took part in preparing many local projects, including highways, irrigation, sewage, water systems and buildings. He was government district engineer during the days of PWA and other government construction organizations. He served as Nampa city engineer for eight years, resigning in 1949 to accept a membership in the Caldwell engineering firm which then changed its name to Griffiths, Davenport and Associates.
During World War I he served with the Army in France and Germany.
He is survived by his wife, Edna, of Caldwell; his mother, Gertrude, of Caldwell; a sister, Mary Walters of Madera, Cal.; two brothers, Walter of Caldwell, and Ralph, Lindsey, Cal.; an uncle, Walter Griffiths, Caldwell attorney; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Al Brucck of Richland, Wash., and two grandchildren.
