Mary Belle Dickson was born in Pennsylvania in Oct. 1894, the daughter of Charles E Dickson
[1867 – 1945] and Burd Blair Dickson [1869 – 1944].

On 11 Aug 1922, Mary Belle married William Metcalf Varker, son of William Rutter Varker [1862–1895] and Edith Leila Metcalf [1868–1920]. The father, William Rutter Varker was son of Thomas Varker of England and late of New York City.

Dr. Mary Belle Varker graduated from Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1925.

She appears to have been connected with the Woman’s Hospital of Philadelphia for a long period of time, but not sure in what capacities or at what times, other than:

She was not listed among hospital staff in 1925-1927.

She WAS listed among staff and interns in 1939.

She WAS listed as a member of the Pediatrics Department at some point in the 1950s.

She WAS on the Board of the Hospital in the 1950s.

She lived outside of Philadelphia (in Wynnewood, a close western suburb) as of 1985.

Dr. Marybelle Dickson Varker, Died on April 15, 1991, at her residence in Wynnewood, Pa, devoted mother of Rosey Varker Pettit of Grieg, NY [now deceased], Rev. William D. Varker [now deceased], of Greensboro, NC., and [living Varker].

She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, a brother, T. Bruce Dickson, M.D. [now deceased] and a sister, Burd Dickson Stevenson [also deceased].

Relatives and friends were invited to her Memorial Service on Wed. April 17, 1991, 11am in the Chapel of the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, Montgomery Ave. Bryn Mawr, Pa. The internment was private.
