Virginia Coble Adams Coleman PAMPLICO - Virginia Coble Adams Coleman passed away peacefully on December 31, 2013 at McLeod Hospice House after a brief illness. She was born at the old Burroughs Hospital in Conway, South Carolina on December 29, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Wilbur Coble Adams and the late Nettie Maude Holliday Adams. Her father was a native of Rowland, North Carolina and through him she was a descendant of the Lumber River Scots, Purcells, Torreys and The Reverend J. H. Coble. Her late mother of Conway was a member of the Joseph William Holliday Sr. family, long prominent in Horry County. Mrs. Coleman was a graduate of Conway High School. She received her bachelors' degree from Limestone College in 1941. During the World War II years she taught high school English in Pee Dee area schools in Timmonsville, Bennettsville and Pamplico. It was in Pamplico where she met the love of her life, James Rutledge "Cotton" Coleman Sr., and after he returned from the war they were married on November 20, 1946. They made their home in Pamplico, where she was active in cultural and civic affairs. She was a long standing member of Beulah Baptist Church in Hyman. The Coleman home was always known for genial true southern hospitality and Mrs. Coleman prided herself on welcoming all visitors with open arms. She was a loving mother and friend. Mrs. Coleman was preceded in death by her husband "Cotton" of 57 years and daughter Annette (Anne) Holliday Coleman Bell.
