Born Catherine Rena Byrd on November 10th, 1899 in Corbindale, Palmyra, TN. She was always called by her middle name, Rena. She was the eight (8th) child of Andrew Jasper Byrd and Susan Matilda Byrd.

Married Billie (William F) Broome on July 15th, 1917. They had five (5) children. When her husband, Billie Broome, died in 1930, she did the best she could to keep her children fed, eventually moving her and her family in with her older brother Virlie Byrd. They all worked on the farm, that Virlie had. Virlie and his family eventually moved to Detroit, MI.

On December 15th, 1932 Rena married Andrew Brown Patterson, who was a friend of her brother-in-law and sister, John Hartwell Hamms & Mattie Byrd Hamms.

The children of Rena (Byrd)(Broome) Patterson called their new step father "Mr. Pat". Mr. Pat was working and living in Detroit, MI. and moved his new family there. At one time they all lived with Virlie Byrd again in Michigan.
