Robert Curtis Henderson, of Round Lake Beach Ill, formerly of Black Oak, Indiana, passed away July 19, at the Hillcrest Nursing Center.
He was born October 17, 1908 in Fithian, Ill. as one of seven children born to the late Milton Henry Henderson and Mattie Helena Winland.
Robert is survived by a son, James O. Henderson of Griffith, Indiana, two daughters, Virginia Maxine Umfleet of Beach Park, Ill. and Janice Elaine Yahr of Jordan, Minnesota. In addition he has nine surviving grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren along with two great-great-grandchildren, Tiffany and Allyson who brought him many delightful chuckles during the last few years of his life. He has a surviving sister, Nellie Irene Butts of Danville, Ill.
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eula Mae Harris who passed away May 5, 1985 and one of his cherished granddaughters, Cynthia Diane (Umfleet) Gray who passed away on April 30, 1996. Cindy was the apple of his eye and cherished her grandfather beyond words.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 22, at 2 p.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion with Chaplain Nichole Grasse officiating. Interment will be private at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Shererville, Indiana.
