Elvira Rose Durante passed away on Sunday from congestive heart failure at the age of 104. She was a resident of Our Lady of Fatima Villa in Saratoga, CA
Elvira is survived by her son Donald Durante and daughter-in-law Rosemarie "Nina" Durante (Saratoga)
She is reunited with her late husband Mario Durante.
Elvira was born in Fuscaldo, Italy and came to the United States when she was 14 months old. She was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio by her late parents, Salvatore and Rose Sansone.
She moved to Southern CA in 1958 where she and her husband opened a men's clothing store in Granada Hills, CA. She moved to Los Gatos in 1976 and resided there until 2004 when she moved to Saratoga.
Elvira was active in Southern California as a Red Cross volunteer and in the Los Gatos area she was a member of the YLI branch from St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Elvira was a talented and accomplished piano player and would play for many senior functions in both Los Gatos and Saratoga and regularly played for invalids at Villa Fatima in Saratoga.
She was also involved in her son's French restaurant, Le Mouton Noir in Saratoga from 1977-1996 where she assisted in food preparation several days a week.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Monday, Jan 30, 2012 at Darling Fisher Mortuary in Los Gatos, 615 N Santa Cruz Avenue from 5-8pm and a 6:00 pm vigil service. Funeral Mass is Tue, Jan 31, 2012 at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Los Gatos, 219 Bean Avenue at 1:00pm with a reception following.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital, Memphis, Tenn and the American Heart Assoc.
