Rites Thursday For Pioneer Woman
Died at Home in Flint Tuesday, January 22; Burial Here
Funeral services were held here Thursday of last week for Mrs. Jane Dean, 78, pioneer of Midland County who died at her home in Flint, Tuesday, January 22, of a stroke following an illness of two weeks.
Jane Baker was born July 13, 1856, at Erin, Ontario. Married to Benjamin F. Dean April 3, 1874 at Watertown, Ontario, they came here that year and settled on a farm at Smith's Crossing. They moved from there in 1880 to a farm on the Bay City Road and where eight years later Mr. Dean died. Mrs. Dean remained there until 1916 when she moved to Flint to make her home.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Jesse Shaw and Mrs. Lovisa Hoover of Flint, Mrs. Carrie Alexander of Freeland, and Mrs. Edna Unger of MIdland; one son George of Flint; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Murphy of Toronto, Ontario, and two granddaughters, Mrs. Iva Haley of Flint and Miss Etta Alexander of Freeland.
Rev. W. J. Dudgeon officiated at the services here and burial took place in the Midland cemetery.
