Betty Joyce Richards Burton, 76 years 9 months and 19 days of age, was granted her angel wings on Friday, January 3rd, 2014 at her residence. Betty's life would seem too short to many, but those who knew her understood that the quality of life far exceeds the amount of time in which one lives. Her sweet loving smile, huge giving heart and very outgoing personality brought so much joy to her family and friends. Although at times being weak and frail she gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life.
Betty was born on Monday, March 15th, 1937 in Somerset, Kentucky, daughter of the late Tolbert and Lura Richards. She loved spending time with family, watching University of Kentucky Basketball, fishing, yard selling, and going to Church. She was a member for over 30 years at Gospel Tabernacle Church.
Betty was survived by two sons, Joseph "Waide" Burton and Dennis (and Penny) Bolin; six daughters, Donna (and Billy) Vanhook, Violet (and Johnny) Rose, Wanda (and Kevin) Dunn, Mary (and Ronnie) Dagley, Tammy (and Jackie) Loveless, Lisa Roark, and Edith (and Virgil) Baker; two brothers, Raymond Thomas "Ray" (and Betty) Richards and Billy Joe "B.J." (and Erma) Richards; twenty seven grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends who mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lura Mae Merritt Richards, who departed this life on August 24th, 1945; her father, Tolbert J. Richards, who departed this life on April 10th, 1976; her husband, Mark Burton; one son, Johnny Burton; two daughters, Doris Allen and Bonna Burton; one son-in-law, Richard Roark; one brother, James R. Richards; and one sister, Carolyn Gibson.
Visitations were held after 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 6th, 2014 at the Southern Oaks Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7th, 2014 in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Dunbar and Bro. Jeff Phillips officiating.
Burial followed in the Somerset City Cemetery in Somerset, Kentucky.
