NORTH RIDGEVILLE - Mary A. Leboda, (nee Gargas), age 97, of North Ridgeville, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2013 while a resident of the Center Ridge Nursing Home. She was born in East Chicago, Indiana on August 9, 1916; at the age of two her family moved to Poland where she lived until returning to East Chicago at the age of fourteen.
Mary married Leo Leboda on September 29, 1936 and subsequently moved to Ontonagon, Michigan where they resided until coming to Lorain County in the mid 1950's. Following the death of her spouse, she maintained residences in Florida and Texas before returning to Ohio in 2005.
Mrs. Leboda attended St. Peter Catholic Church in North Ridgeville and was formerly employed as an aid at the North Ridgeville Senior Center. Previously, she had been employed by Grassi's Restaurant in Elyria.
Survivors include her son Robert J. Leboda, Sr. (Pauline) residing in Akron along with twelve grandchildren including her "dolly" and special caretaker for eight years Dawn Zocchi (Dean) of Avon. In addition, she leaves twenty-one great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents John and Agnes (nee Adamczyle) Gargas, by her daughter Loretta Leboda, by sons Richard and Ronald Leboda, and by brothers and sisters in both Poland and the United States.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Reverend Bob Sanson officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
The family encourages memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society .
