He was born circa 1693. He married Sarah Plum in 1716 in Newark, New Jersey. He and his family removed to Hanover in Morris County, New Jersey about 1721. He was the first judge in Morris County, when he was appointed on 25 March 1740. He wrote a will in 1750. His descendants used the common spelling of their surname of LINDLEY. He and Sarah Plum had 10 children: Hannah, Junia, Caleb Sr., John III, Levi, Demas, Philip, Silenus, Phoebe and Stephen.
