From the Weekly Clarion Ledger, Jackson, Miss., Nov. 9, 1899, p. 8:
Died, at the family residence on Griffith street, Sunday night, Mrs. Richard Griffith, aged about 37 years. While not unexpected, the death of this estimable lady was a shock and surprise to the entire community. She had been very ill for several days and all that medical science could do to save her life was done, but without avail. At a late hour last night her spirit winged its flight to the great beyond.
The deceased was the wife of Mr. Richard Griffith, cashier of the Merchants Bank, and leaves a loving husband and two children to mourn her untimely demise. She was born and reared in this city, being the daughter of Mr. Joseph Cooper, formerly a well known citizen of Jackson. During her days of happy maidenhood she was a great favorite in the social circles of the city, and about fourteen years ago was united in marriage to Mr. Griffith.
The funeral services took place from the family residence at 10:30 o’clock, after which the remains were tenderly laid to rest by loving hands in the city cemetery. To the bereaved husband and motherless children, the sympathy of the entire community is extended in their hour of deep sorrow.
