Mrs. Martha H. Kettle, 57, widow of George Kettle, died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday in her home in the Town of Janesville, following several days illness.
She was born near Footville June 22, 1870, the daughter of Melvin and Charlotte Chipman, pioneer settlers of Footville. She was married June 18, 1889, to George Kettle, Janesville. Ten children were born of this union, three of whom died in nfancy.
Mrs. Kettle is survived by seven chidren, her husband having died eight years ago. Since that time she successfully operated her farm in the Town of Janesville.
Those who survive are: three sons, Ray, Melville, and La Verne Kettle, Town of Janesville; four daughters, Mrs. William Adee, Town of Center, Mmes. Leora Ward, Marie Bartel, and Mildred Bartel, all of Janesville and vicinity; one brother, Roy Chipman, Milton; three sisters, Mmes. Ray Bacon, Janesville, Forrest Worthing. Footville, and George Pepper, Granton, Wis.; also 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the home, three and one-half miles north of Janesville, on the Evansville highway. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
